Who Invented the Desk? - Version 1: Gareth Long & Liam Gillick
2010 - ongoing
The question 'who invented the desk?' is used as a starting point for wider discussions around the meaning and location of artistic production. Originating from a residency exhibition at The Apartment in Vancouver, the work is formed around a series of newly commissioned texts presented in a re-iterative, continually modified publication. This is further expanded by lectures, discussions and informal conversations centering on questions of artistic authorship and subjectivity and the intersections between art and labour.
